Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities visits TARRC
It is an exciting time for everyone at TARRC; recent activities have included a visit of the King and Queen of Malaysia accompanied by an entourage of VIPs, the Merdeka Day Carnival at Brickendonbury, TARRC’s new Chairman, YB Datuk Wira Hj Ahmad Hj Hamzah and Director General, Y Brs Dr Salmiah Ahmad, who both addressed all members of staff, the Hari Raya celebrations and now a most welcomed visit by the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Y.B. Dato’ Hamzah Zainudin.
During the visit on Wednesday 6th October TARRC’s CEO, Dr Kamarudin Ab-Malek, gave an opening presentation on TARRC’s historical background, current areas of expertise and an overview of future projects. The Deputy Minister was also given a lab tour, led by TARRC’s Director of Research Dr Stuart Cook, that included tyre retreading, engineering and the biotechnology laboratory.
A reception was then held with all TARRC staff and Y.B. Dato’ Hamzah Zainudin spoke very highly about his observations during his visit.
“There were times that it was thought that the rubber industry would become a sunset industry but I want to congratulate TARRC on the fact that it will ensure that the rubber industry in Malaysia will never become that”.
He continued, “I am honoured to be a part of TARRC and I take back to Malaysia all that I have learnt today. TARRC is a renowned centre of excellence within the rubber industry, I am sure that with all the hard work of all of TARRC’s staff it will become not only one of the best research centres in Europe but the world”.
Y.B. Dato’ Hamzah Zainudin was presented with a token gift from TARRC to mark the occasion of his visit.
